# Markdown URL fallback

**What we look for.** Whether /index.md, and .md versions of your pages, return Markdown with a Markdown content type and a heading.

**Why it matters.** Not every agent sends an Accept header. A .md URL is the simplest way to ask for the clean version.

**How to pass.** Serve each page's Markdown at the same path with .md appended, starting with /index.md.

Run it: `npx backwatch your-site.com --pillar readability` and find `markdown-url-fallback` in the report.
